>> Hi. My name is Melissa Alam and
I'm the CEO and Founder of the Hive,
which is Philadelphia's first
co-working space for women.
So a co-working space is a shared office space
between typically entrepreneurs or freelancers.
So it's in substitute of working out of a
coffee shop or working out of your apartment.
It's a space where you can go, use the Wi-Fi,
and be surrounded by other motivated
people and get your work done.
So being your own boss you don't
really have anyone to, you know,
keep you on track of your
projects or tasks or what not.
So, kind of, being in that environment
of a co-working space really helps.
I gear toward women because there's no other
co-working space for women in the city so I,
kind of, saw a hole in the market.
I split my time between mostly
actually answering emails all day,
but emails for new membership.
Giving people tours.
I actually just brought on a membership
director who's also a Temple alum.
She just graduated.
So thanks, Nicky [assumed spelling].
And, yeah, so we work on membership.
And then beyond that we host
events and workshops
for further personal and
professional development.
So at 6 p.m. we stop co-working and we
typically have events either held by myself
or other people come in and teach workshops.
So we're doing a lot of event planning.
And then on top of that we
are planning a signature week
of events called Fearless Philly Week.
So it'll be this upcoming November and hopefully
an annual thing where we have a week full
of events for women and then a women
in business conference at the end.
So it's going to be really just jam-packed
for Philadelphia women to come and network
and meet other women and just learn more about,
you know, their career and how to grow that.
