>> You could be a business major.
Definitely everybody has some
form of music background.
Whether they were a piano major, dance major,
musical theater, business will help you a lot,
you know, whether it's budgeting.
But you definitely, the root is entertainment;
the root is absolutely entertainment,
musical theater.
I always tell everybody, they say,
but how do I get this opportunities?
Go volunteer at your community, any kind
of community theater, at
your school, at your college.
Start in high school, you know.
I tell everybody start earlier.
I started doing musical theater
literally in elementary school,
up at the high schools, and community theater.
But if you want the audition experience,
ask if you can sit in and be an assistant.
Maybe you can sit outside and check people in.
But whatever it is, entertainment manager,
I think, stage management is important
and understand -- maybe you're
a tech, you know, a technician.
But the more well-rounded you are, the more
of a utility player you're going to be,
and especially when you're
overseeing all of entertainment
as a duty manager to have that understanding.
Again you're overseeing characters parades,
union performers, AF of M, Advent performers.
To have that performance
background helps a lot for you
to empathize and put yourself in their shoes.
But I -- it definitely helps that you do events.
So having that detail oriented, you know,
timeline, getting the whole big picture.
It's about the art package.
It's about the tech package.
It's about talent, creating,
and dealing with the producer.
All assets kind of come together,
and that's what you are managing.
So I would tell everybody
get as versatile as possible.
Always have a backup plan.
And I definitely think there
is a management side of it too,
so you could do organizational management.
But I wouldn't say somebody that can do
organizational management gets entertainment.
So I definitely think it feeds and starts with
that root, whatever that discipline it is,
if you will, whether it's voice, piano,
you're a musician, you're a tech.
You know, you can be very
successful in any of those roles.
But I think that's the root and, I
would always get some sort of business,
even if it's a minor in business.
