>> My name is Stephanie Zimmerman and I am
the training and development coordinator
at the Library System of Lancaster County.
I've been there eleven years in January, and my
role is to train all the staff and volunteers.
We have 14 public libraries in this county.
To make sure the people at the front
desk, all the way up to the director,
know what they're doing,
that they're on their jobs.
Started mostly as technology training, and
now moving more in to self-skills training,
like team building, customer service, but that's
the role, so that they can do the job in each
of the facilities, and they're all very unique.
They're all independent.
They're funded separately.
They have their own boards.
So, that's the role that I play to help,
so that you get the books you need,
and all the other services that the
libraries provide in this county.
Way beyond books, databases, eBooks, music
free music [inaudible], all kinds of things.
So, pretty much getting in to the office,
packing up, we have a mobile laptop lab,
two big crates, and I'll put them in to the van.
We have a van that we can go around
to all the different locations,
set all of those up, have the students come in.
That can run from a one on one
session to up to nine people.
That's how many computers we have,
and do usually a two hour to
three hour course with them.
It really varies and then, when
I'm not out and about doing that,
I'm preparing for whatever kind of training they
need, so, a lot of developing the documentation,
answering help desk phone calls with
questions, when they have things like that.
I'm pretty much the go to person
when we need to learn something,
you figure it out, and then
show us how to do it.
Well, I'm an 8:30 to 5, pretty much, I don't
have to worry about evenings, which is great.
I have two small kids and
that works out very well.
Monday through Friday.
Every now and again, I might
have to do an evening event,
where we're displaying what
we offer to the public,
at community events, but that's pretty rare.
You know that's pretty much a standard day.
Just, out and about a lot,
but I usually don't have
to work real late, 6 o'clock might be my latest.
Sometimes, I'll come in early
to get ready, so I like that.
I like-- I used to work in private industry as
a trainer, and 60 hour weeks, that kind of--
So, this is a nice non-profit,
different kind of pace [giggle].
