>> So I went to Pomona College
and I was studying,
I could create my own major at
Pomona, which was fantastic.
And my major was in public
policy and human sexuality.
I was studying it because
that's what I'd been passionate
about since age 16 was issues
around human sexuality.
I was particularly interested
in sex education policy.
And my college thesis was on the distribution
of condoms in California prisons and jails.
So I grew up in San Francisco during
the HIV epidemic on Castro Street.
So growing up my city was
kind of dying around me.
It was sort of a issue that I was
very aware of from an early age.
Then I went into teaching sex ed and worked
with all of these young people who were amazing,
but they were taking all of these risks
that they didn't really realize
what the consequences would be.
And so I became very passionate
about the issue of health education.
As I grew into my teens and twenties I
realized more and more that the issues
that were also personally affecting me
and personally affecting my friends
tended to be human sexuality related.
They were related to our
sexual health and wellbeing.
And when we looked for support on
those issues often we couldn't find it
because of just how stigmatized
those topics were
and just how few resources were
out there to help support us.
