>> So I grew up not too far,
Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
And ended up going to Penn.
I was a field hockey and lacrosse player there
and had a great undergraduate
experience there and loved the city.
So I stayed on this side of Philadelphia.
At that time, in West Philadelphia.
But as I graduated, I mentioned I
really wanted to stay in sports.
So I thought getting out as a sociology major,
I really needed to really get more structure,
more definition in what that might look like.
So I was really fortunate
because when I came out in '84,
there weren't that many sports
management programs.
And to have a premier of one of the best
programs in Temple, I was really fortunate.
I didn't have to move, I could commute.
And also I was coaching field hockey
and lacrosse at Drexel at the time.
So I was kind of really just
a student slash working there.
And then I also had a great internship through
the school through Temple with the 76ers.
So it was a great chance.
I got to see what collegiate athletics
would be like to know on that side of it.
I was able to see what professional
athletics were like.
And really eliminate that.
So that was a good thing for me to be able
to as much as I liked my internship there,
it really didn't feel like the
space that I wanted to be in.
But a friend of mine said, "Hey,
they're recruiting for Kellogg.
It's a great place to just get
some, you know, get a company car,
good salary, and good training program".
So I said, "Oh, I'll do it a couple
years and I'll just get back".
And what can happen is I got kind of
tied up into that and started working
for a variety of them in different capacities.
So I was able to get sales, marketing,
and operations experience through working
with Anheuser Busch, Kraft, or to name a few.
So I was really lucky.
But my daughter was about, I don't
know, 8 years old and she said to me,
"I'm tired of staying after school".
So looked at us and we talked about as
family and so I left my vice president job
with a company which was
a big adjustment for me.
So I went from really busy to zero.
And so I had to redefine what I
wanted to do and kind of start fresh.
So I started consulting,
consulting different ad agency.
And that started to do very well.
I went back to the place where I'm familiar.
I went to consumer products
friends and retailers.
They've been having some quick success.
But still having that urge
to get back to sports.
So we opened up a sports
marketing company and now I own
that individually and have
been trying to grow it.
