>> I came in as a freshman for Douglas
residential college in fall of 2007.
I came in undeclared even though
I knew that I really wanted
to do something in the communication field.
I kind of fell in love with
PR, took a bunch of classes.
Have to give a little shout
out to professor Grasso.
Had him for numerous classes, still
try to stay in touch with him.
He kind of taught me -- well, he confirmed
what I knew that I really wanted to do.
But he also showed me how much fun
and how much work PR really could be
since he had worked on the
other side of it as well.
And then while I was at Rutgers,
I did a lot on campus.
So, I was the president of the
Douglas student recruitment network
which hosted all the prospective students for
either classroom visits or overnight visits.
We also ran the open houses, overnight
weekends, and the large-scale parent weekends.
I also did Douglas greeters which were
the students who helped incoming freshman
on move-in day as we helped them and their
families kind of get settled in the dorms.
I was a red pine ambassador which is
the tour guide on Douglas for a while.
And then I also was a Rutgers'
new student orientation leader.
And if you look at all four of those
extracurricular activities, they all kind of fit
into that branding Rutgers to the
outside world and I just found my niche.
I loved kind of sharing with incoming students
or prospective students and
especially their families.
I don't know what it was about dealing
with parents but I just loved it.
About the benefits of Douglas,
about the benefits of Rutgers.
You know, why they should choose here.
And so I just knew then that PR
was probably the best place for me.
If I could represent Rutgers and love it,
I could probably represent
a lot of other things too.
