>> I knew when I came out what
I wanted and what I didn't want.
I knew I didn't want to be a maternity
nurse, psych nurse, pediatric nurse.
Know what you want and go after what you want.
It's hard because certain places,
there's only so many positions available.
What I strongly encourage
is to find a good mentor.
I precept a lot of nursing students,
as well as a lot of new hires.
Not that you doubt your knowledge, because as
a [inaudible] grad you should feel prepared.
But be humble, be receptive to
your mentor, to your preceptor.
And don't feel like things
have to click right away.
It could take up to a year, year
and a half for you to be like,
to have that moment where, ah, I do know that.
Or, I'm not stupid.
Or, I can do this.
No, I won't drown.
Or I won't cry every day
for the rest of my life.
Love what you do.
Get your Bachelor's.
Keep climbing the ladder.
Travel. Baptize yourself by fire.
Dive in. Because you'll change as a person.
Even though you don't like
to do things, do them anyway.
But yeah, it's huge.
Get a good mentor.
Get a good precept or someone you can trust.
Know who to ask the right questions to.
