>> I would say to students not to
be afraid to reach out to people.
Something I did actually during my time
as a student was search online for people
who had jobs that I was interested in or
even companies that I thought I might want
to work for, and just sent them an email.
I mean you'd be surprised at how
much information you can really find
on a company's website or on
LinkedIn to reach out to someone,
and I would just send them a note saying
you know, I'm interested in what you do;
it's something I'm thinking
about for the future.
I wanted to see if you could just give me,
you know, fifteen-thirty minutes of your time
to meet with for coffee, and I just
want to learn about what you do.
And so many of them got back to me,
and it was great to have that knowledge
of what someone actually does in their
career, and something you could take back
and really kind of plan for the future.
And then of course kind of tacking onto
that too I would say it's absolutely key
to then write thank you notes; that's
something that I do all the time in my job,
and I think it makes a huge difference,
and people always really recognize that,
and it makes you stand out, so when that person
does have either an opening in their company
or they know of something that might be a
match based on their relationship with you now,
they're going to call on you,
and they're going to help.
People are just you know very
willing to support I found.
