>> My advice to college students
that might be pursuing something
like this is that there is no direct path.
You know, I didn't take certain
steps to get to where I am.
I kind of fell into it.
So you have to be open to your
life going in different directions.
If you do want to, if you know for sure
that this is something that you want to do,
I would recommend going the news route first.
I mean, USC journalism school teaches
you to be a news reporter, a news anchor.
So I think those are the basics
that you can't get anywhere else.
Going to that small town and making your
mistakes and asking question after question
after question to really get comfortable
and be confident about what you're doing.
If I didn't do all that as
a local news reporter,
I wouldn't be good at what I'm doing now.
So I think, and a lot of people,
well, I want to do entertainment.
I don't want to leave Hollywood.
This is where it's at.
Yeah, that's true, but where are
you going to get your basic skills
that will help you succeed in the long run?
