I would say that they should get
as much experience as possible.
They don't necessarily have to get an internship
or volunteer experience within
this particular field.
But I would say to students that they
should try to gain the skills necessary.
For example, when I was first hired at CSP as
a health educator, I knew nothing about drugs.
The only thing I knew was
that they're bad for you.
But I was hired because I had the
skills that they were looking for --
strong public speaking skills,
a strong background
in community outreach and community education.
So if for example, there are not a whole a lot
of opportunities for students to get experience
within this particular field, I
would say to look in experience
in the skills that they're looking for.
