>> I think that the one thing
that I would say from just
from a managing your career standpoint.
There are a couple of things that
I would suggest to a student today.
One is to network, just as much as you
can with as many people as you can.
Networking is truly what
it's all about, I believe.
I believe it's how we get things
done and how people come to know
of situations and come to know of you.
And there are lots of different
ways you can do that.
When you find yourself, you know,
entering a certain profession
or a certain type of organization.
I would encourage folks to find some local
professional group or society that deals
with whatever discipline they're in.
I would encourage them to become
a part of that organization.
And I would encourage them to
be active in the organization.
I mean, not just go to the meetings.
But help plan the meetings and help do some
of the very unglamorous work that it takes
to keep those kinds of things running.
Because in so doing, you become
seen and known as someone
who can get things done and
can help solve problems.
And it will hold you good
stead within your community.
I think it helps you so that when you're
out in the community, when you're looking
for a change, you're more of a known quantity.
And certainly networking, I think is
something people think about a lot.
Oh, yeah, that's what I do whenever
I'm out searching for a job, you know.
I'll do some networking.
But I encourage folks to
network as much as they can.
Even when they're not in job search mode.
