>> My favorite part of my job would be going
to the conventions and teaching the teachers.
I love sharing musical ideas with them.
Sharing with the music I've written
and the composers I've worked with.
The materials we've presented.
I love that part.
I also on the side, though, do a lot of
work as a conductor and as a clinician.
And in those, in that role I get to work
with all the best students from a county
or a state and put together a program.
And that's kind of an outreach
of what my job is.
Challenges in my job are finding new composers.
And training them in our practices
of how we edit music or write music.
And developing them in a positive way.
Because it's hard if you you're a
composer and somebody says, gosh,
you should do this a little different.
And some composers are, great,
whatever you want to do.
Great. Thanks for the tips.
And others are, no, that's the way I wrote it.
And so it's kind of crossing some lines
and forming relationships with them.
That's difficult.
The other thing for me is I grew up in
a time when there was no technology.
And now technology is everywhere.
So I've learned to use a music
writing system called Sibelius.
Which is a music notation system, I should say.
And learning how to market to the
up-and-coming teachers via the Internet.
So things have certainly changed in
my life and being in this position.
