>> My undergraduate degree is in English, and
then I did graduate work in creative writing,
which is actually writing poetry, a little
different from like maybe a Facebook post.
But I actually learned a lot about saying
as much as possible in as few words
as possible, and as few words as possible.
I think that well it's not a sonnet.
Sometimes most of those tweets are really
about making people interested
in 140 characters or less, so.
And I started working actually here at the
University of Maryland Career Center while I was
in grad school, and ended up
finding out that I really liked kind
of the public relations/marketing/communications
area.
It was something that I was interested in,
but I didn't really want to
go into business I thought.
And I think I had a limited world view,
but I got to see that there were people
who were doing, you know, public relations,
or marketing for educational institutions,
for nonprofits, and that's kind of the path
that I ended up going on after I kind of opened
up my eyes to all the different
ways that you can work
in that industry, but in a different setting.
I had gone from working at the
University of Maryland to working
for a private firm that worked
with associations.
And just through networking one of my
friends had been the art director at ASC,
and there was a position that I saw on
a list serve that I was a member of,
and I asked him about it, and he kind
of discussed it with the hiring manager,
and I went in for an interview,
and it was a really good fit.
I've been there about 5 years.
