>> Well I mean I think one of the first
things you have to do is go out and network.
Go out and meet people, reach out to people.
People really are very open to
speaking with you and they do want
to help you along your way
and along your career.
I mean something that somebody told me once is
one of the best things that you can do is reach
out to someone because people love to
talk about themselves, case in point.
People love to talk about themselves.
So really go out and do that but also
too, I mean understand the industry.
Know what companies and firms are up against.
So if you want to work for a large firm
or if you want to work for a small firm,
know what their individual sort of
background is, what their marketplace is,
what they're really going after but also
what political climate they're facing
or what you know sort of special interest groups
they might be like sort of leaning towards
or if their company hinges on a big contract.
Know those things if you're going to go in
and talk to somebody in those organizations.
To do stuff the way that I'm doing, just
because that I'm so sort of all over the place
with exactly what my role is and I'm
not just essentially in financials,
I think you really need to have
sort of an entrepreneurial spirit
and like go get them type of attitude to it.
You want to have that drive
that sort of pushes you.
You need to be able to also be very fluid and
very flexible because one day you're going
to walk in and you think you
know what your day is going to be
and then it's going to flip on its head.
And you don't know why but
it's going to flip on its head.
So you sort of have to be able to
roll with the punches a little bit.
