>> Dental school -- all right, dental school --
usually in college you're majoring in science,
biology, chemistry -- you just got
to get -- you can major in English,
you can major in engineering, you
can major in anything that you want,
but you have to get like, your
core science classes [inaudible]
down to get into dental school.
And most dental schools want you to have like,
let's just say a year of biology [inaudible],
but a year of biology, a year
of chemistry, a year of physics.
You know, you have to get your -- those core
sciences in, so if you majoring in English
and just like science, yeah you
could still go to dental school.
So, that and then, you know,
dental school is four years.
The big -- one of the bigger differences
between dentistry and the medical profession,
you don't have to do a residency.
A majority of people do a residency anyway, I
did like a year of general practice residency,
just kind of refined these skills.
So, four years of college, four years of
dental school and maybe a year of residency
and then you can kind of jump out there, you
know, it's [inaudible] your exams you have
to take [inaudible] passing course, but you
know, the best thing to prepare is, you know,
real strong science background in college.
You got to take those science classes
and you got to get good grades in them.
You know, you can kind of lollygag a little
bit, but you got to rocket science classes,
you got to get you know, a's
and b's in your science classes
and there's like a standardized test.
Dental school is like the [inaudible]
DAT, in medical school they have
like the MCAT [inaudible], you
know, profession kind of ethic test,
but there's a standardized test and you got
to get good grades in your science classes.
I would say that that would be the plus that
would make your life easier if you're used
to dealing with people from different
backgrounds because a lot of people [inaudible],
don't like going to the dentist,
I'm a little nervous.
So you got to be able to deal with people
from, you know, the different fears.
You almost got to be the psychiatrist a little
bit, but just a good personality and you got
to enjoy working with your hands, you know.
You can succeed by just having great
hand skills, you know, you're just good.
You're just real [inaudible],
might not be able to talk
to anybody, but you can succeed that way.
But it would be a lot easier if you're great
with your hands and you enjoy talking to people
at the same time and making
people feel at ease, you know.
