>> I would say [inaudible], knowing the nuances
of different types of media are important
and what -- how brands work their selves
into editorial coverage in unique ways.
I think some people have a very
inherent understanding about it
and know the people that do well.
I would say learn quickly how to multitask
and juggle a lot of balls at one time.

Yeah, as a communications manager, I think
a lot of the communications theory is great
but also a lot of the hands-on [inaudible],
internships obviously are a great experience.
And there's a wealth of, you
know, seminars, training classes,
things that you can take advantage of in
school, outside of just classes but lectures,
especially everything, you know, give social
media and all the emerging trends so staying
on top of all of that is crucial.

For breaking into the career
field, I would say stay persistent.
There's, you know, not a lot
of entry level positions.
Our agency really doesn't hire entry level
staff without previous internship experiences
so I would say start early looking
for internships coming out of college.

Being able to deal with stress, being able to
put out fires and not be stressed by, you know,
little glitches that pop up every day in
whatever you, your team, your clients are trying
to deal with, working as a team, you
know, it's probably not a good answer
to say communications is important in a
communications field but not just being able
to write press releases and that sort of thing
but being able to communicate with your teams
and almost over communicate, especially on email
so that no time is wasted,
you know, duplicating efforts.

Honestly, I think being competitive
is a huge advantage, you know,
people that channel a competitive nature
into even the most minute
details and administrative tasks.
I think of the people that are just wired that
way that can attack a workday and get through,
you know, a mountain of work
that needs to get done.
The people that you can tell have
played sports or done things in group,
team mentalities I think do really well.
